Baker’s Floor and Surface recently completed a concrete polishing job at a commercial building in Brisbane. For this project, our highly trained technicians stripped the existing finishes, sealers, and coating. Then, they made the initial cut using a metal bond diamond. The holes were filled and then grinded down to even out the floor. Next, they grinded the floor to remove scratches and visible flaws. Then they applied densifier. Finally, a stain protector was applied and the floor was burnished at a high speed to achieve a shiny look. This project was roughly 15,000 square feet and it took one month to complete.

The result was a mid-to-high level shine throughout the high foot traffic area. By choosing to seal and polish the existing concrete, our clients achieved the results they wanted at a fraction of the price of new concrete.

A San Francisco restaurant recently hired Baker’s Floor and Surface to refinish their 25-foot wood bar. This beautiful bar had a chemical stain located on the bar top and prior attempts to remove the stain had failed. In two days, two of our highly trained wood refinishing technicians were able to sand down the wood and stain it to the customer’s preferred color. For the final touch, they added a matte finish lacquer.

Marble is a beautiful and functional choice for flooring, walls, and surfaces. It can serve as an attractive statement piece or cover an entire space. As with any natural stone, marble requires maintenance to keep it looking beautiful. Over time, marble surfaces become scratched, etched, or damaged. Baker’s recently completed a marble restoration project at a commercial building in San Francisco. For this project, we honed (an abrasive deep scratch removal process) a 50- foot marble desk. Our expert technicians used a hand grinder to improve the surface texture. We finished with a polish that gave the marble shine and clarity. Through this process, we were able to transform the marble desk to its original beauty. The project took approximately 8 hours to complete.

Baker’s Floor and Surface recently completed a 300 square foot concrete grinding and polishing project at Google. This project consisted of two staircases and landings. For this project, we hand grinded the concrete floor using a 4-step process (2 diamond and 2 resin blades). The concrete was then polished and sealed with a burnish finish. The burnished finish provided a hard-wearing durable finish with a surface luster. Stone floors are natural and beautiful. They are a popular choice with contractors because they can be cut to create raw, brilliant surfaces. But stone materials are millions of years old and require certain processes to maintain their integrity. Baker’s Floor and Surface recently demonstrated our state-of-the-art laser restoration process on an interior stone flooring at a commercial building in San Francisco. For this demonstration, a section of the floor was taped off, cleaned by our laser, and sealed with a diversifier. This mock-up demonstrated how well we can clean stone floors. The pictures speak for themselves.

This advanced laser technology originated in Europe and is used by historical preservation societies to return stone to its original state. This same process is now used by our specialized technicians. The depth of cleaning goes far beyond any other cleaning process on the market.

We understand not all stone floors are the same. Our specialized technology allows us to adjust the laser power depending on the surface damage and the cleanliness of the floor. On average, it takes our stone technicians eight hours to complete 120-140 square feet. Laser Cleaning Drastically Improves Stone Surfaces

Outdoor stone and concrete surfaces experience extreme wear and tear. In addition to foot and bicycle traffic, these surfaces are also subject to extreme weather conditions. San Francisco can see many different weather patterns including rain, sleet, hail, wind, and sun. While these materials are built to withstand extreme weather and traffic, the surfaces eventually wear out and need to be cleaned, re-surfaced, or replaced.

Baker’s Floor and Surface specializes in updating and improving outdoor stone surfaces. We recently demonstrated the effectiveness of our laser cleaning on stone stairs at an outdoor plaza in San Francisco. For this project, we lasered two exterior steps outside the same plaza. Additionally, we wanted to show the difference between a step that was just lasered and one that was lasered and sealed. The result speaks for itself. (see “after” pictures)

Laser cleaning is used for a number of reasons. It might be used for surface roughening. In this case, we engrave tiny craters or thin tracks on stone to improve slip resistance. Clients choose this process when they want to improve the safety of their property and help eliminate trip and fall hazards. Laser cleaning is also used for grinding flat concrete floors, loosening old floor coatings such as paint and epoxy, and creating a smooth, even surface. By using laser cleaning, we can eliminate the cost of replacing stone and concrete that’s still in good condition.

After the initial laser process, many of our customers choose to seal the stone. This step protects it from surface damage, corrosion, and staining. It can also save our customers time and money in the long run. Sealing a surface blocks water from penetrating the surface, helps keep out salt, chemicals, dirt, and plant growth, and extends the life of the stone.

Baker’s transforms intricate outdoor teak wood bench into a masterpiece

A well-maintained wood surface is beautiful. It can turn any area into a work of art. Teak wood a popular choice for bars, restaurants, outdoor benches, walls, and even high traffic office spaces. This versatile element is one of the most popular style choices for new décor and can also stand the test of time in historic buildings. But, like all materials, wood gets damaged and worn over time. While some wood issues only require a simple cleaning and polish, wood with extensive damage may need customized restoration and a long-term maintenance plan.

Baker’s Floor and Surface recently refinished an outdoor teak wood bench. The teak wood pieces were shaped so that each piece needed to be wiped, cleaned, and preserved by hand. For this project, our technicians first cleaned and conditioned several exterior pieces. They wiped each individual piece down, applied a wood preservative, let it sit, and hand buffed each piece out. As a final step, they used a special finish to help enhance the teak wood and protect it from damaging UV rays, harsh water, toxic mold, mildew, and all other outside elements. When they were finished, the wood looked new again. Now this wood surface is an attractive outdoor feature. It’s also weather and wear resistant.

Does Your Aluminum Piece Need a Little TLC?

Baker’s restores aluminum table. The results are stunning.

Aluminum, by nature is resilient and doesn’t rust like untreated steel. But, if placed in adverse conditions, it will oxidize into a cloudy and white powdery finish. This process happens over a long period of time, but ultimately occurs in most aluminum tables and furniture.

When we have an aluminum project, we first assess the level of damage. Then we follow a specific metal refinishing process. Baker’s Floor and Surface recently completed an aluminum refinishing job in San Francisco. For this job, the client had a large aluminum table that had been damaged and left untreated. Our expert technicians first sanded the table and powder coated it.

Powder coating is a polyester based coating that uses identical, electrostatically charged, micro-beads of polyester, to adhere to base materials. It’s thick and similar to epoxy paint, but more durable. Because it’s electrostatically charged and baked/cured onto the base material, it won’t peel or fade like paint. The added layers of coating also protect the piece from damage like dings, dents, and scratches. The final product was then lacquered to finish. The result yielded a beautiful, soft color with plenty of depth. This project took our technician one day to complete.

Sealed aluminum is protected against corrosion and external wear and tear. Not only is it durable, the finish is uniform and beautiful.
